Guidelines of Swollen Gums for Pregnant Women
Did you know that pregnant women are prone to swollen gums? This is true because of the hormonal changes in the pregnant woman’s body. How do they know that their gums are swollen? Swelling of gums is marked by redness and tenderness of gums. The gums become sensitive to food and liquid intake.
During pregnancy, women should take extra good care of their teeth and gums. To avoid gum problems such as swollen gums pregnant women should follow the guidelines below:
1. Brushing and flossing regularly. You may find it tiresome to wake up in the middle of the night if you forgot to brush your teeth but you have to stand up and wash your teeth. In this way, you will maintain good oral hygiene. Flossing is also important since it aids the area in your teeth that are not able to reach by your toothbrush.
2. Schedule a visit with your dentist. As pregnant woman, you know that you are prone to gum problems, therefore you should set a date to see your dentist for a regular check up. Frequently seeing your dentist will give you awareness on what is going on with your teeth and gums. In case you have gum problems such as swollen gums then it will be treated right away. Take note never try home remedies without your dentist approval or recommendation this may affect the growth or health of you baby inside your tummy.
3. Avoid eating too much sweet foods. Cakes, candies and ice cream are very tempting to the eyes. However, eating too much of these can lead to gum problems. If your gums are already swollen eating sweet food can only aggravate the disease. At the same time, this is not good for your baby.
4. Eat healthy or nutritious foods. Eating healthy foods can boost your immune system. In this way, your body is equipped with the right amount of defences to resist possible disease that you will get. Remember you need all the energy you can get especially during your delivery. Eating nutritious food means healthy baby as well. Take note that whatever you eat or drink will be shared to your baby. Therefore be very cautious about it.
Pregnant women should double their efforts in taking good care of themselves. Remember that your baby is very dependent on you most especially during the first trimester. Their survival depends on you, their mother.
